Roxaboxen is a wonderful book about a group of children who create an imaginary world on a rocky hill near their homes. They name the town Roxaboxen. They gather the materials to build their houses and roads from what they find around them.
Round black pebbles are their money. They drive cars and ride horses. There is a bakery, graveyard, a mayor, and a jail with a police officer.
This is the childhood I want my kids to remember-finding playfulness in the simplest things in life, and using their imaginations to create a magical world of fun.

I love how you post about books to read. I am always on the look out for a good book. Thanks.
Looks like a great book. I'm going to check it out. When I was younger The Littles captured my imagination. Everything they had was miniature and the pictures were so detailed. I wonder if I still have that book...
Oh, I want to get this for my daughter now. I have encouraged her in this way, and I know she would love to read this book. Love your blog, by the way!!
We've read that book. Definitely reminded me of my own childhood...I hate the fact that most kids today (even my own, sadly) are bored unless there is a XBOX 360, Nintendo DNS, Laptop or MP3 player somewhere within 1 foot of them. It was a rare, rare thing for me to ever utter the words "I'm bored.".
