Family Time, Family Values

In an effort to try to be more deliberate with our time as a family, I wrote down a list of our Family Values, the ideals that matter most to us.

It took a little thinking, list-making, crossing things out, and trying to find just the right words.
Here they are:

Truth
Simplicity
Mindfulness
Contentment
Hospitality

Now that we have our list of values, it's easier to make decisions about how we spend our time. Considering our values, does it make sense to buy this or go there?

With these five ideals in mind, I want to eat more fresh meals at home, take walks together, combine driving trips so we are in the car less, sit on the floor with the girls and put together a puzzle, have our door open to friends and family for dinners, backyard play, and extended visits....

How do you make decisions about how your family spends its time? What are your family's values?

Hi, I found your blog through your sisters and I love reading both of your stories. I also use bento boxes and made my son today your pb & honey rolls. He was so excited! I really love your thought for today, Family Values. So simple, yet so profound. I mean you are right, with values like those, why would anyone choose to buy anything or go anywhere.....my family and I will make our own set of values. So glad I found you. Corinne

I love this post. I have just been thinking and praying about where I am on my spiritual walk with God and where I want to be. It is good to step back and evaluate.

I like your values a lot!! I need to become better at hospitality... it is not a "gift," so it makes me nervous. Yet I love it when people say they think I'm gifted in that area, cause that means God is shining through me and doing what I can't!! Awesome!

Chrissie,
Your family values are exactly where we are too. May I link to your blog to discuss the same topic?
Your girls are a bright spot in my blog viewing! Thank you for sharing their sweetness!
God bless you!

I too found your blog through Lisa's. I LOVE the idea of writing down your family values and making decisions based on those core values. I concur with your list of values, especially "simplicity". I've made some significant life decisions based on my commitment to simplify. It's amazing how different a decision is when you take the time to think it through rather than jump to the decision.

Thank you for sharing your family values. You have a beautiful family and a beautiful heart.
