I've read about other moms packing their kids' lunches in a bento box, and I thought it was such a clever idea. It saves on baggies and allows for a lot of variety. I picked these up at a little Japanese store near our home. I filled the small cups with cantaloupe, wheat crackers and chocolate pretzels. (That is a little doggie toothpick stuck in the cantaloupe, not a fly!) In the top section was string cheese...
and a half sandwich.
Then I just stacked the two layers and put the band around them to hold it all together.
Happy lunching!

cute...I want to see these today!
I wish there's a closer bento shop here with better price.
i love those! I had not seen the bento boxes before - how clever! they would be perfect for my daughter to pack her snacks in her gym bag.
Id love to see the entire box, havnet heard of them before!
another clueless blogger- I've never see these before, but I'd love to save the 10 baggies I go through a day packing lunches!
could you be any cuter? no? i didn't think so.
I bought my kids' bento boxes online at laptoplunches.com since I wanted ones I could put a cold pack in given unknown times for school lunch time slots. Before that I used just a regular lunch box so I could use a stainless steel kids thermos (keeps stuff ultra cold for long periods and is usable for many years so no yucky milk) and small snap lock containers. You can subdivide the snap lock containers using silicone muffin cups (they are tall enough that they seal when the snap top goes down and wet items are kept separate from dry ie watermelon doesn't contaminate (kid's word not mine) the cheese or anything else). You can also use pill containers or small sugar sprinkle (cookie sprinkles) containers to handle condiments or things like parmesan and we've been using a travel container that originally came with coton balls in it (.99 from a grocer with coton balls) that fits 1 cookie (oreo or chocolate chip) but no more than one...
Have fun...and tiny cookie cutters make it even more fun for the kids.
bentos are so much fun, I've been making them for my son's lunches this year too
love the idea. i bought one on line and didn't realize how small it was. if you would be so kind :O) where did you find yours.
i hopped over here from your sister's site, and i'm glad i did! such cool ideas you share so freely.
CA is always ahead of the rest of the country, but i'm wondering where i might be able to get these bento boxes. they're very swank, and eco friendly. love the idea of not using baggies! i checked online but haven't seen any like yours so far. any suggestions?
What a great idea! For those of us new to the "bento craze" what are they exactly and where can I find them? (and the bands??) thanks so much for another great idea!
A friend's mom has a website devoted to Obento. She really likes it. You should check it out for ideas and stuff.
