Watching Trains

It's one of our favorite family outings-dinner by the train station and then up to the deck to watch the trains go by.
The anticipation of the coming trains in almost overwhelming for the kids. And when a train finally arrives, it really is spectacular. So close and loud and fast and exciting.

One of these Saturdays we need to buy tickets and get those kids ON the train. Hmmm...

We did that once for my sons birthday. It cost $6 for a round trip ticket on Amtrak, and we went two stations south and back again. We drove the route a few days before our trip, so the kids could identify landmarks. It was great!

That's a great photo! My son (21mos) loves trains. I'm sure he will be doing that too one day :) Thanks for the smile!

So fun! When we lived in Wheaton, IL we lived three blocks form the train station. We took the kids once...they were too little to remember...but at the time they loved it!

Wow - that looks like so much fun, and I love that you have a superhero with you, just in case something might happen :)

Is this the train station in fullerton by the Old SPagetti Factory? I grew up in Yorba Linda and can remember going to dinner with my Grandma at SF then going over to the station and laying a penny on the tracks... (you can't do that now) and waiting for the train to come! It is such a treasured memory...thanks for posting this!
