These spinners mimic the samara fruit that whirls and spins as it falls from the tree. The paper version is easy to make and fascinating to watch. Ours worked even better when we added a paper clip to the bottom.
Here's a pattern with directions to print out and color to make your own samara spinner. Have fun!
P.S. I'm giving away all three of my awesome coloring books. Check it out here.

Your link doesn't work. :( I'd love to download your coloring books.
We made these with our boys, but they tore very easy. So we switched to cardstock and taped a penny or two to the bottom. Take them outside and the coins make them heavy enough to really soar high into the air. Ours would go up 15-20 ft and the kids played with them for hours. We had to print many extras for neighbors to join in (even a few parents, so they wouldn't keep taking their kids).
Great activity!
The link works now. Thanks, Kelly! You can purchase the coloring books by clicking the button on my sidebar.
Thanks for the tips, Kimberly!
love the coloring books! I love coloring books period, it's one of my favorites with the kids.
Just wanted to tell you how much I love all of your ideas. Whenever I visit my nephew I have tons of crafts to do with him because of you and we have so much fun together. Thank you!
We made these this morning and are still having fun with them. Ours haven't torn and I just used regular copy paper and a paperclip as you suggested.
thanx for the download.... we made these today and loved them.
