Shoe Box and Rubber Band Guitar

We rounded up a couple of old shoe boxes to make these super cool and simple guitars.

Materials:
shoe box
different size and width rubber bands
2 pencils

Here's how we made them:
1. I cut a round hole on the lid by tracing around a glass and then cutting out the circle with an X-acto knife.
2. The girls added the rubber bands, choosing different sizes and widths for different tones.
3. Then I slipped a pencil under the rubber bands on both ends.

These guitars have a really beautiful sound when the girls strum them. I think putting the pencil on either end makes all the difference.

We are so into making music right now. The girls want to make drums next.
Maybe we'll start a band. Stay tuned!

This is so great! Often your projects are just a little too old for my 3 y.o. but these instruments are perfect. We'll be trying them out soon!

Tomorrow will probably be a snow day for us so it looks like we will make our band! We made drums a few months ago from our old oatmeal containers. thanks again!
