It's hard to mess up a smoothie. Fresh fruit, milk, and yogurt just taste good blended up together.
I use whatever we have on hand or whatever fruit is in season. I like to add ice cubes to make it extra cold and a banana makes it creamy and thick.
Normally, I don't measure the ingredients. I just sort of add stuff until it feels right. But for you, my beloved readers, I measured.
Here's a super healthy and delicious one I made for a snack on Saturday.
1/2 cup soy milk
1/4 vanilla yogurt
5 strawberries (stems removed)
1 banana
2 teaspoons ground flaxseed meal
2 teaspoons sugar
5 ice cubes
Put it all in the blender and press start.
And there you go!

yum! we love smoothies! haven't made them in a little while.
That's so funny you'd post this. I just made the same thing on Friday night! So yummy!
Must be in the air for smoothies. My daughter came over the other night and made them for everyone here!!! Yummmm.
We love these! One of the things we do is use frozen strawberries and then we don't add any ice cubes...they just get chunks of strawberry where the chunks of ice would be ;)
Never thought of adding flaxseed. My son LOVES smoothies -- we'll have to try this.
I nominated you for a blog award, too! Check it out when you get the chance:

oh yum!!!!
Do you know about the "magic bullet"? It's a little blender that makes smoothies right into a plastic mug. Yes, it was from an info mercial, but it is awesome! I used mine for making baby food when my kids were little and now use it to make "berry milk" (smoothies) for my boys for breakfast. LOVE IT!
Sounds yummy~

Never thought of flax seed!
If you use frozen strawberries you do not need to use ice cubes!
Also, if you want to avoid refined sugar - use about 1/2 cup of orange juice.
i was just thinking this a.m. that i need a smoothie recipe. i have attempted, but always get the balance of ingredients wrong.
thanks!
We tried your smoothie recipe. Delicious!
Strawberry Banana Smoothies are a favorite in our house too.
Here's how we make them: http://metropolitanmama.net/2008/06/stephs-strawberry-banana-smoothies/.
Oh, how we love smoothies too! We add frozen berries instead of the ice cubes to make it extra cold. Try adding Orange Juice instead of the sugar, it's so yummy sweet! My husband is the smoothie maker around our house, he too adds the flaxseed sometimes he will even add a little bran.
Love all the great info you share!
Thanks for the great recipe. I'm planning to try the flaxseed. A couple of things we do: When bananas turn brown, we peel and chunk them. They go into a ziptop bag in the freezer. The frozen banana chunks go right into the blender. When I have a big tub of spinach, I freeze a portion of it in a ziptop bag. When added frozen, it doesn't turn the whole smoothie green. If you add frozen blueberries at the same time, you don't even see the green pieces! I use almost all frozen fruit and veggies to make the smootie extra cold. White Grape or Apple juice works well with the frozen fruit, and no sugar is needed. Thanks for the great ideas!
