Where do all these little tiny "toys" come from? A USA flag ring with "Made in China" stamped on the front? Really? Come on!
We have oodles and oodles of itty bitty, useless trinkets. Actually, we have two oval boxes full. And that's it.
When the lids won't slide onto the boxes correctly, I know it's time to toss some things. I don't junk it all. I just sift through the chaotic mass of plastic and pull out the dismembered legs and such.
I throw away just enough so the lids will slide on securely. And so the boxes will stack. And so there's a little space left for next week's itty bitty treasures.

Ooohh- I have rug envy! I also periodically clean out our toy baskets--wish they had lids!
I keep a basket of all the "little odd toys"...when it gets too full, I clean it out and donate the little goodies to Max's class. The teacher uses them for "Treasure Chest" rewards for the kids! It's kinda funny when Max comes home all excited about getting "another" toy...just like the one he already has, ha! He has not figured it out yet :)
We have a lot of those itsy bitsy toys too...they multiply...I don't even know where it all comes from.
McDonalds? School?

seems like the kids play with that stuff so much you can't bear to get rid of it all...i'm with ya. i need me some boxes!
Wait until the girls are bigger and become Daisy Girl Scouts. They make S.W.A.P. pins out of all that stuff and wear them on their bucket hats! Kind of like crazy little fisherman!
ok thank you, I have been wondering where all these little things I step on come from. Bizzare, and even more so because my kids like them! I like this treasure box system. Also why is it that the important little things like keys, batteries are so much easier to lose?
I know! We keep ours in some bins (I'm a bin fanatic!) and we use them for collages, freeze them in water for treasure blocks, etc. It's crazy...I don't even know where all this junk comes from!
The kids like to decorage picture frames with the bits and pieces that can no longer be connected or returned to its former glory.
The little stuff never goes away. My oldest is 21 and he still has tons of itty, bitties coming in. Also, I wanted to let you know that I really enjoy all you do hear and have given your blog the I Love Your Blog award. Thanks for all!
These make the perfect seek and find bags. Buy the thick plastic from Wal-Mart (table covering vinyl) and some funky fleece fabric. Sew it into a square with the vinyl window center. Fill with doll stuffing beads or rice and trinkets. You can make a list of what you put in there and have them find specific things or they can just hunt for whatever they find.
These are great car/travel toys, church nursery toys (we donate a few every year), new friend birthday gifts, etc, etc.
We love them and when we tire of one, we just make a new one or pass the ones we've made around.
They also make great Geo-caching trade items. That is one of our favorite family activities. It's a real treasure hunt!
I am so inspired! Thanks for all your clever ideas about what to do with these odds and ends.
Where did you get your baskets?
