Uno is just plain fun, but it's also perfect for teaching and learning numbers and colors. The simple object of matching the color or number from the previously played card is great practice.
I took out all the "Reverse," "Draw Two," "Draw Four," and "Skip," cards while we were first teaching the girls how to play. They caught on so quickly, and now it's a favorite!
Now I've added the "Skip," cards back into the playing deck. {See picture above of daughter pointing and laughing as she "skipped" Mom.} We will gradually add in the others as well.
I adore these simple moments at home-playing Uno, laughing and learning, just being together.

that's a great idea. love the red polish!!
i bet my boys would love uno. we'll have to give it a try. we love to play old maid... we have a couple of different versions. no matter which one we play, my son belly laughs when his dad or i pick the "old maid" card from him. : )
wait until they play UNO Attack! They will be giggling so much they won't be able to play! Love the blog, Thank you!
Great idea to ease them in to playing the more complicated way! UNO is such a fun game of family togetherness. Now they have more versions of it for current trends (we have a "High School Musical" version for my daughters!) to make these precious years of playing games together last longer.
Uno is a favorite around here!
And the Joy of having two the same age... always someone to play with!
I've always loved that as a child. I'll have to get a set for my girls.
We love connect 4 as well- another one of my childhood favorites!

playing games with the kids is so much fun. Uno is a good one; we have a 6, a 4 and a 2 year old; so it's hard to find something we can all do together, but the 2 year old will sit and try because he thinks he's older. :) Right now the 2 year old loves "Don't break the ice" something about hitting things w/a hammer.
Love UNO- Can't wait to try it with my daughter. Thanks for all the great ideas- I love your blog (and have lurking for a while!) Come by my blog http://canitasteitnow.blogspot.com/2009/05/ive-been-tagged-now-you.html
I've got an award for you!
UNO! I haven't seen that game in forever, but I have great memories of paying that as a kid. Maybe I'll have to pick up a set when my girls are a little bit older. :)
I love Uno! It is the next "real" game that I plan on purchasing for my three year old. She just received Sorry! which is also a great game for number recognition and counting.
