What's on YOUR fridge?

Me: What is the rule about riding your scooter?

Her: Don't ride in the street.

Me: Right. And you rode in the street anyway. That's very dangerous. I wouldn't want you to get hit by a car.

Her: (w i d e eyes looking into mine)

Me: You may not ride your scooter for one week because you broke the rule.

Her: So, can I ride my scooter tomorrow?

Me: No, not for one week. That's seven days. Today is Thursday. You may not ride your scooter on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

Her: So, can I ride my scooter the day after tomorrow?

Me: Here, let me draw it out for you.

Her: Oh.

Very creative. Thanks for making me smile...I may have to try this out on my four year old...not sure she'll get it yet. Have a GREAT weekend (scooter-free), Amy

It's so hard for them to get a good grasp on the concept of time. You did a great job illustrating it (esp the scooter)! Love your blog!

Funny! Great way to save your sanity. You must be a very understanding and patient mama to know she needed a little help visualizing a week. Kids sense of time is much different from ours.

haha, it's so hard explaining time to them. my son is the same way. If he doesn't see it; he doesn't get it.

I love your blog! I have an idea for a summer project. I haven't really documented it online very well (I got it froma rainy day saturday book) but the general gist is this:
1) Quart milk container, cut to be 4 inches tall
2) plant a bunch of radish seeds in it, leaving about an inch of space at the top
3) decorate the outside with paper and a Mr.potato head style face (with my nephews I plan to use foam face pcs)
4) when the radishes grow, they look like hair!
A homemade chia pet.
I reference my project a few times here:

Love the drawing. We do the same type things with trips, special events, etc. I tell mine that the car will squash them like a bug- and that usually gets the wide eyes, too! :)

Great idea! The best, most effective things are simple & straightforward like this.
