Scheduling, Time Management, and Trying to Do it All

A few years back I made up a little word formula for managing my time. Using these three categories has helped me to sort out my thoughts and commitments, in an effort to be balanced and make the most of each day.

  • requirements
  • relationships
  • rest
Taking time to fulfill requirements includes work, housecleaning, grocery shopping, exercise, cooking, etc.

Being purposeful about relationships means playing, talking, singing, and laughing with my girls, spending time with my husband, calling my sister, meeting a friend for coffee, and so on.

And lastly, taking time to rest includes being quiet, reading, listening to music, having a cup of coffee, taking a walk, alone time...

I try to balance my requirements, relationships, and rest each day. And sometimes it actually happens.

I have made up a lot of these little formulas for my life. I think it's a little neurotic, but that's how my brain works. Maybe sometime I'll post my "Hierarchy of Priorities." It's pure gold. {ha}

If only life could always fit into neat little boxes...

What a lovely idea. I'm afraid that my requirements WAY outweigh the other two groups. Something to work on...

Thanks for the post!

Those are three great categories! Good to always remember rest. Without rejuvenating, the rest just falls apart.

Love this!! I am always fighting to find balance. It seems like requirements takes most of my time and is always the least done. hmmmm

I think this is a great way to put things in categories because it allows time for play and I need to learn to do this. Thanks for the idea.

Great post! It's so easy to slip into making everything a priority. Rest is so powerful and I admit that I ignore that area at times. Thanks!

Thank you for this formula. I have a category kind of mindset so this really helps me (& I posted about it too). Just recently found your blog and have fallen head over heels for it!
