Sewing in Kindergarten

I found an embroidery kit by Jenny Hart at TJ Maxx. I'd been wanting to teach the girls a little sewing, but was unsure where to begin. Her stuff is perfect - funny, simple, non-intimidating instructions & many inspiring images.
We've started with a simple running stitch, creating a broken line. We just draw a simple image on a white tea towel with a washable marker and they stitch around it.
They are hooked, so proud of what they can create.

I have been doing this with my kids names. I have them write it on the muslin with a water soluble pen. Then they stitch away. I am going to make them in to a pillow.

Aww, so cute. maybe Audrey and I will try this; she's been asking to sew something; I like the idea of making it into a pillow.

Boys love sewing too! And sewing is great for fine motor skills, which they usually develop at a slower pace than girls.
