Char Broil Performance 475 Review – Best Affordable Grill?

If you on the market for a budget grill you will have likely heard of Char-Broil. For this grill in particular they have focused on keeping it as affordable as possible while keeping their standards and overall quality up.

But the question is – is this grill good enough especially considering the low-price tag. Below I am going to cover everything, so you can decide if this is the right purchase for you.

Char Broil Performance 475 Review

For the Char Broil Performance 475 there are a couple of slightly different deviations that you can choose from. It is available in an all-black design or one with a stainless-steel hood design mixed in and it is also available to be powered by liquid propane or natural gas. For my review I used the liquid propane option and the one with the stainless-steel lid.

Let me start of by talking about the set up for this grill. When you purchase this grill, it comes with different parts, but these parts have already been assembled. So, its just a matter of combining these sections of the grill to get it set up. Because of that the set up is really quite simple and easy, though the instructions aren’t the best. Once you get things set up you will see the grill in all its glory. It looks great and you wouldn’t think it’s an affordable grill just by looking at it.

As you can see from the pictures there are 2 shelves on either side of the grill. These can be used for food preparation or whatever you need them for. In fact, in the left-hand side shelf there is a built-in side burner which can be used for a pot or pan to cook vegies or make a sauce or anything else you would like. Also, the side shelves can be folded down if you need to fit it in a smaller small and it also uses much less space if you are storing it over the winter or whatever else. Also, its worth noting that the grill is easy to move around thanks to the built-in wheels on the bottom.

Now to the cooking. As for when you get up and running the burners use an electronic ignition system which works just as you would expect. The grill has 4 burners which you can adjust individually which is great. As for the cooking grates themselves – they are made from a cast iron which is an excellent material for holding the heat and they also make amazing sear makes when cooking.

With the grates you have the standard cooking grates and grates which are raised up a little more which could be used for cooking things more slowly for example which is nice to have. When grilling with this it works perfectly – everything cooks evenly no matter where on the grill you place it – there are no cold spots on this grill. When it comes to the actual cooking area there is a lot of room for cooking – in fact Char-Broil say there is room for 20 burgers to be cooked at once and I can totally agree with that – there really is plenty of cooking space.

On a final note about the cooking area, the hood can be lowered when cooking and to keep food warm after cooking as well. There is a built-in temperature gauge in the hood, so you can get the perfect cooking temperature for whatever you are cooking.

As far as cleaning for this grill goes it is quite simple. The grease pan can be removed and emptying the grease away and cleaning it is easy. Also, the cooking grates are removable and are coated with a porcelain material which makes for cleaning them simple as well.

In terms of durability for this grill it is great and feels well built. While it doesn’t compare with the likes of Weber grills it is only a fraction of the cost and the value for money in this regard is tremendous for this grill.
