this is a wonderful activity! i collect leaves from ca native species, and then press & laminate them onto index cards. if you holepunch the corners and put them on a keyring, they're supereasy to carry. children can then match exact leaves (and even the littlest of little ones can match colors, shapes, sizes, etc.) funfunfun...

We live in Arkansas and have a wonderful state parks system. We have two faves — Pinnacle Mountain and Petit Jean. Pinnacle is so close that we spend many a Saturday there in the spring, fall and summer. Hiking, a picnic ... bliss.

love your ideas. i'm homeschooling my kindergartener and preschooler. i need to incorporate something like this into our lessons. we live right next to a state park, so we have plenty to take pics of! i like the idea of the field guide too. i think we might try something like that ourselves. great pics, btw!
