I'm talking about rated "G" movies like A Little Princess, which had war scenes involving explosions and bodies strewn about. We're still having conversations about it.
I discovered this site called Common Sense Media that can be helpful in determining which movies you'd like your children to watch. It reviews the content in detail-sexual content, violence, language, and the overall message. It also reviews television shows, music, video games, books, and websites.
A screen asks for your email address, but you can click "No Thanks," to bypass.
Here is an excerpt from their Mission Statement.
We exist because media and entertainment profoundly impact the social, emotional, and physical development of our nation's children. As a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization, we provide trustworthy information and tools, as well as an independent forum, so that families can have a choice and a voice about the media they consume.
I've bookmarked the site and plan to use it often.
It's happened more than once. I allow the girls to watch a movie only to realize it has content I wasn't expecting.

another good site like that is Focus on the Family's plugged in site. and they do music, TV, movies, etc. http://www.pluggedinonline.com/
Thanks for sharing - I'm sure we'll be using this in the near future!!! Riley loves movies but at 2 1/2 right now Dora, Disney cartoons and Hello Kitty usually foot the bill :)
I love this site too! Thanks for posting it!
...didn't know about the site - thank you for sharing!!!

Thanks for sharing!
Once again, you amaze me.

I'm with Joelle on www.pluggedinonline.com! This site doesn't preach presents factual info allowing me to make up my mind for myself.
Thank you, for the link. I'll use this site as well.
um yeah. great tip--thanks! i can't believe some of the stuff in kids movies!!
another great one is http://www.Kidsinmind.com
It gives a rating for sexual content, language, & violence. And then will go through and specifically tell you everything that goes on in the movie in those categories (and why they rated it). there have been absolutely no surprises with movies now. And I can tell at a glance if a movie fits my bill. =]
screenit.com is another great site for telling you what you need to know about a movie before watching it!
Enjoyed your blog!
