The Oyster A5 Turbo is a massively popular option when it comes to clippers that are primarily used for animals. Though being popular doesn’t always mean a quality product. So here I have tested and used these clippers on countless occasions to give you my opinion on exactly what they are like and how they perform when compared with other clippers at their price point. It’s worth noting that in my usage I have used these clippers only for cats and dogs though you can use them on horses and livestock too. Now let me get to the review.
Oster A5 Turbo 2 Speed Professional Animal Clipper Review – Overview
First off let me start of by saying these clippers are available in a selection of colors – black, light blue and an aqua blue so you can pick the perfect color for you.
When it comes to construction of the clippers they are well made and feel great in the hand even after using for longer sessions of 3 hours I didn’t feel any strain or my hand or wrist which is a massive advantage. The power cable is quite thick and durable as well. The clippers come with a size 10” blade which is ideal for most cutting situations but there are a host of other blades that you can buy separately if you need to, though in my personal experience what was included in the box was all I needed. It’s also worth noting that inside the box are a lubricant and a grease for the blade which is a nice addition.
These clippers have 2 available speeds as the name suggests, one lower (3,000 SPM) speed and one higher (4000 SPM) which offers some flexibility depending on where you are cutting. When it comes to the weight of these clippers they weigh in a just under 2 pounds so using them for longer cutting sessions is no problem.
When it comes to cutting with these it is a great pleasure to use them. They cut through any hair even thicker and knotted was effortless and for me that’s definitely a huge selling point. Also thanks to the blade not being overly big it makes for cutting in more awkward spots much easier. The handle is long which again makes for cutting certain areas much easier than it would be if it was a bit shorter – so you can see it has been designed with that in mind.
After reading other people’s reviews of this product I noticed a couple people mentioning about the clippers getting quiet warm and even hot. My dog has quite a thick coat and after cutting for over an hour long I didn’t notice any warmth at all. You just need to make sure to use the right blade for the job for example a Size 3F Skiptooth is what you would need if you have a dog breed with curly hair like a poodle for example.
One final thing I would like to mention is that the clippers are not too loud so if you have a young pet or one that gets anxious easily these shouldn’t cause your pet any stress for which is important.
Overall these Oster A5 Turbo 2 Speed clippers are a quality product that do exactly what you would expect and makes the process of cutting your own pets hair a breeze. They are available at a great price point and are without a doubt going to save you a lot of money in the long run especially if you used professional groomers previously.
